We salute Vicki, this "Valentine's Month" because of her wonderfully warm, loving and caring spirit she brings to the online streaming station, the WWB and Bluegrass community, and the respectful and dedicated way, she deals with all volunteers, fans and listeners. The WWB, the first of it's kind on the web, is unique, the "original" and "first" model, where the LIVE SHOW DJ's interact with chatters and listeners from the stream, who are tuned in, via a chatroom, during broadcasts. The WWB has benefited much by her tireless efforts of collecting new music and information on bands, worldwide. The listening of the music is FREE and the WWB has been one of the first, many times, to spin an unknown artists, only to get them discovered and later signed by a Bluegrass Record Label. Vicki, was "on the air" from it's beginning, bringing such fresh artists to the forefront, to be recognized. Its time to recognize her efforts. She asks for nothing, except a little time set aside to "pick one".
Vicki enjoys playing in an all female bluegrass band as well. She is the bassist and a vocalist, for Ma Crow and the Lady Slippers, a Cincinnati based band, formed less than a year ago and that has already been nominated in the Bluegrass category for bands, by the Cincinnati Entertainment Awards (CEA's). More information on the band can be found at Facebook.com
She has worked tirelessly, promoting the artists, venues and music of Bluegrass and was a couple of years ago, honored by Ms Dixie and Tom T Hall as a Daughter of Bluegrass. An award that is usually reserved for women that front their own Bluegrass Band. Vicki is also known as a familiar "ad voice" - producing ads and materials for charities and Bluegrass functions, that benefit to some worthy cause or organization. She has worked "for free" in the spirit of the WWB - that streams music "for free" 24/7 to educate the masses of the world about the wholesome, homegrown goodness of heartfelt mountain music.
Ask anyone that has worked with her and they will tell you, Vicki is one of the sweetest ladies around. She lives her Christian faith "out loud" and is not ashamed of a testimony for Christ, and presents a gospel segment during her two hour broadcast on Wednesdays at noon, known as Abbott's Bluegrass Habit. . She gladly helps anyone she can, with little time to spare and never expecting praise or thanks. She deserves much and in this humble friend's opinion - goes unnoticed for much of the hard work of Assistant Manager, Show Personality and Programmer, as well as an "I Can Help" part time streamer and trainer for the station.
Thanks goes out to Vicki and her volunteer spirit for all she has done for the last 6 years at the WWB, helping us achieve our mission to promote, preserve and educate listeners about Bluegrass music. We Salute Vicki Abbott - this months WWB Dj !! What a sweetheart!!
