| Great News For Terry Poirier! |
|
If you've listened to World Wide Bluegrass for any length of time, you will no doubt recognize the name Terry Poirier. His on-air show, "Kickin' Canadian Grass" is a well loved show in the WWB line up, and he's the cataloging and organizational guru of our music library. In his "spare" time, Terry is also the bass man for The Katie Penn Band. December 29, 2009, the multi-talented Canadian born Terry Poirier became a US Citizen.
On the day I received a phone call from Terry late in December, your News Editor expected that there was breaking station news or happening to be seeing Terry's name on the caller ID on her cell phone display. Little did I know what wonderful news I would hear on the other end of the line. An ecstatic Terry Poirier had called to share his wonderful news of becoming a US Citizen. Once I heard the news, I asked him to send me something I could publish to share the wonderful news with our site visitors. He forwarded the following note
Many of the WWB listeners know very well about how Holly and I met in Lexington KY in 2006 on my first trip. Of course there was several months of "chatting" online previous to that. From the first moment I layed my eyes on Holly, it was just amazing how we enjoyed each other's company. We got married in Sept 2007 and told no one about it.....to keep more suspense......(I love moments like this!) Now being married we had another challenge to overcome. I had to return home until part of my immigration process was approved so back home I went. I remained in New Brunswick Canada until September 2008 [where the immigration process continued.
While all of this was happening, not two weeks went by and I was asked to play a few shows with Kati Penn where on December 1st 2008 became an official member of the band. I submitted the last immigration packet in March of 2009 and on December 29th, Holly and I went to Louisville, KY to the federal building for the interview with the immigration officer. Before we left the building they were ordering my permanent resident card and was welcomed to the United States of America. Two and a half years after the whole process started, I'm finally where I want to be and I must say, I'm very blessed! I have a lovely wife I love. I play with a GREAT band and there's some really great things to come.
If fate has its way, I can assure you it really has been on my side the last few years and am looking forward to see what will unfold in the future.
Thanks everyone!
The Kickin' Canadian,
Terry Poirier
